Windows 98 Dial-Up Networking

    Begin by double-clicking on the My Computer Icon.
    There should be a Dial-Up Networking icon in the window that appears.
    Open Dial-Up Networking by double-clicking on the icon.

The Window and Icon

    Type the Area code of the number you wish to dial into the Area Code pull down list.
    Type the Access number you wish to dial into the Telephone number field.
    Select 'United States of America (1)' from the Country Code pull-down list.
    Click the Next button in the wizard window.

    You have completed the wizard.
    When you click the Finish button, the connectiod will be created.
    Click the Finish button in the wizard window.

    You see the Dial-Up Networking window. There will be at two icons in the window.
    Use your right mouse button to click once on the Connection you wish to modify (the one you just created.)
    A menu will appear. Use your left mouse button to click on the Properties option.

The Dial-Up Networking Window

    Make sure the Telephone number displayed is the correct Access number.
    The 'Use area code and Dialing Properties' checkbox should be checked.
    The Connect using pull-down list should already display the modem you wish to use to connect.
    Click the Configure button.

General Properties

    A separate window appears.
    If the Connection tab is not currently displayed, click on the Connection tab.
    Make sure that Data bits is set to 8, Parity is set to None, and Stop bits is set to 1.
    Under the Call preferences heading, there are three checkboxes.
    The first two checkboxes, 'Wait for dial tone before dialing' and 'Cancel the call if not connected within...' should be checked.
    The third checkbox is optional.
    Click on the Options tab.

Modem Connection Properties

    There are two checkboxes near the top of the window neither of these checkboxes should be checked.
    Click the OK button.

Modem Options

    You are now at the window you were before.
    Click on the Server tab to display the Server page.
    Under the Advanced options heading, there are five checkboxes (Three for windows 95).
    Only 'Enable software compression should be checked.'
    Under the Network Protocols heading, there are three checkboxes.
    Only 'TCP/IP' should be checked.
    Click on the Settings button beside the TCP/IP checkbox.

Server Properties

    At the top of the window there are two radio boxes.
    The 'Server assigned IP address' radiobox should be the one selected.
    A litte further down, there's a couple more radioboxes.
    Of these two, the 'Server assigned name server addresses' radiobox should be the one selected.
    There are two checkboxes at the bottom of this window.
    'Use IP header compression' should not be checked, and 'Use default gateway on remote network' should be checked.
    Click the OK button to save the changes you've made and return to the previous window.
    Once you are in the previous window, click on the Scripting tab.

TCP/IP Properties

    Under the Script file heading, make sure the File name field is blank.
    Click OK to save the changes you've made to your connectoid.

The Connect To Window

    You are now in the Dial-Up Networking window.
    Double-click on the icon of the Quadnet Connection you just got through modifying.
    Another window will appear, this is the Connect To window.
    Type your Username (example: username@quadnet.net) into the User name field.
    Type your Password into the Password field. Your password will appear as asterisks.
    This is to prevent people from reading your password from your machine.
    If you do not wish to re-type your password each time you connect, put a check in the 'Save Password' checkbox.
    When you are ready to connect click on the Connect button.

The Connect To Window

    You are Finished!
