Netscape 7 Mail Configuration
Use the following instructions to set up Netscape 7 Mail for the first time.
To change existing settings click here.
1. Open Netscape Mail & Newsgroups. You can do this a number of ways:
- Double-click on the Netscape Mail & Newsgroups icon on your desktop
- Click on Start | Programs | Netscape 7.0 | Mail & Newsgroups
- Click on the Mail icon located in your toolbar in Netscape (located under the address field)
2. You will be prompted to enter a screen name. You do not need to do this in order to use Netscape, and if you're setting Netscape up to get Quadnet.net email (which--if you're following these instructions--you are), it is recommended you click Cancel here.
3. The Mail & Newsgroups configuration wizard will start, and you should see the screen below.

If "Email account" is not selected, select it.
4. Click Next.
5. Enter your name and email address in the appropriate fields. Your email address is based on the username you chose when you signed up for service. For example, if you chose the username jsmith, then your email address would be jsmith@quadnet.net.

6. Click Next.
7. The type of incoming server is POP, and should be selected by default (select it if it is not).
Type mail.quadnet.net in the Incoming Server field, and mail.quadnet.net in the Outgoing Server field as shown below. It does not matter if this is typed in upper-case or lower-case letters.

8. Click Next.
9. Enter your username. This is the username you chose when you signed up for service with Quadnet. For most users this username will already be entered, as it is the first part of your email address. If you are configuring a domain email account (i.e. jsmith@yourcompany.com) enter the username provided to you.

10. Click Next.
11. Enter your email address in the Account Name field if it is not there already.

12. Click Next.
13. Review the settings and make sure you've not made any spelling or punctuation errors. If everything appears to be correct, click Finish. If not, click the Back button until you reach that setting and correct it.

14. Netscape Mail & News will start up, and will prompt you to make it your default email program. Select Yes. If you check the box that says "Do not display this dialog box again" Netscape will not check to see if it's the default mail program in the future. This option is up to you.

15. You will be prompted to enter your password for the incoming mail server. Type your password. Please note the password is case-sensitive. If you did not specifically request your password be in upper-case, then any letters in your password are in lower-case letters by default. If you would like, check the box to allow the Password Manager to remember your password. If you do not check this box, you will be prompted to enter your password every time you check for mail.

16. Click OK
17. If you checked the "remember password" box, you will be shown a disclaimer informing you of the possible security concerns about saving the password on your computer. Read this information and click OK.
18. When Netscape Mail opens and completes checking for new mail, click on Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings.
19. Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP).
20. If you connect to the internet using quadnet.net, uncheck the "Use name and password" box. If you connect to Quadnet.net, your screen should look like this:

21. Type 25 in the Port field.
22. Ensure that Use name and password is NOT checked or you will not be able to send email
23. Click OK. You should now be ready to send and receive mail.
